Uses
Allersoothe (Promethazine) is prescribed to patients to provide relief from symptoms of allergies. It is considered to be an effective treatment for allergic rhinitis, hay fever, allergic conjunctivitis, allergic skin reactions as well as allergic reactions to blood products. In some cases it may be used in combination with other drugs to treat anaphylaxis. This medication is in a class of drugs called phenothiazines, and it works by inhibiting the action of a certain natural substance in the body. In addition to the afformentioned conditions, this drug may be used to treat colds, to help patients relax prior to undergoing surgery, and to prevent travel sickness.

Dosage and Administration
Allersoothe (Promethazine) 10mg tablets come in a blister pack. Follow the instructions on the label, or ask your doctor if you are unsure of the correct dose. These tablets are swallowed whole, with a glass of water. In order to achieve the best results, you should try to take the medication at the same time every day. It is very important that you do not take more than the recommended dosage, as exceeding the dosage could be dangerous.

Side Effects
Allersoothe (Promethazine) often causes sedation and drowsiness. In children less than two it can depress respiration and lead to death. Therefore, it should never be used in children less than two years old. Other side effects may occur, such as:

  • Dryness of the mouth
  • A ringing noise in the ears
  • Changes in vision
  • Hyperactive behaviour or an unusually happy mood
  • Itchiness

Patients who notice uncontrolled bodily movements, fever, breathing difficulties, muscle stiffness, seizures or any other side effects not mentioned here should immediately consult their doctor.

Precautions

Patients are advised to avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this medication.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Allersoothe (Promethazine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
