Relief of itching and swelling of the skin Hydrocortisone DermAid Cream

Uses
DermAid Cream (Hydrocortisone) contains an active compound which is a type of glucocorticoid. This means that it is a corticosteroid hormone that the adrenal gland produces. One of its effects is the suppression of the immune system. For this reason, a synthetic form of it is often used to produce a topical cream that is indicated for the treatment of skin inflammation caused by allergies, as well as other inflammatory conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

In cases where a skin reaction occurs as a result of an insect bite, some doctors may recommend use of this cream, and in addition to this, some people have used it for sunburn. This cream treats the irritation and inflammation of the skin that occurs as a symptom of the conditions listed here by stopping the action of inflammatory substances.

Dosage and Administration
DermAid Cream (Hydrocortisone) comes as a 1% strength formula. It is possible for systemic effects to occur (such as hypercorticalism) if excess amounts of the cream are applied to the skin. To prevent this, you must only use the amount of cream which your doctor directs you to apply.

Prior to using the cream, ensure that the hands (and the area in need of treatment) are clean and dry. Rub a thin film of cream into the skin 2 to 4 times per day (the exact amount will be different for each patient, and depends on the symptoms). If your symptoms continue after 7 days, or if your condition appears to get worse, see your doctor immediately.

Side effects
Local side effects are possible after application of DermAid Cream (Hydrocortisone) and a list of some examples is provided here:

  • Stretch marks
  • Skin maceration
  • Acneiform eruptions
  • Pigmentation changes
  • Secondary infections of the skin

Observe your skin carefully, and tell your doctor if any side effects occur. Symptoms of a serious reaction will require seeking medical care immediately.

Precautions
Never allow the cream to get in the eyes.

This medicated cream is not suitable for treating impetigo and other bacterial skin infections, and it is also not used for treating viral skin infection.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use DermAid Cream (Hydrocortisone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
