Finpecia (Finasteride) has two primary purposes. It is widely prescribed as a treatment for male pattern hair loss. When used for this condition, it helps to promote hair regrowth by reducing the amount of a natural hormone that can damage the hair follicles and cause baldness (known as DHT). Hair loss treatment Finasteride Finpecia

Uses
Finpecia (Finasteride) has two primary purposes. It is widely prescribed as a treatment for male pattern hair loss. When used for this condition, it helps to promote hair regrowth by reducing the amount of a natural hormone that can damage the hair follicles and cause baldness (known as DHT).

The other use for this drug is treating BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in adult males. Patients affected from this condition suffer from urination problems (such as frequent urination or difficulties urinating). These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate. Treatment with this drug helps to reverse these symptoms by causing the enlarged prostate to shrink, thereby treating any problems related to urination and possibly eliminating the need for surgery.

Dosage and Administration
The dosage needed for patients using Finpecia (Finasteride) to treat androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness) is different to that required for an enlarged prostate. Patients must therefore visit their doctor before starting treatment, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Adult men treating BPH (an enlargement of the prostate gland) are often directed to take 5mg per day. Regular medical checkups will be required during treatment, so as to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

The dosage for hair loss may differ for each individual, and the instructions of your doctor must be followed. Adult male patients are sometimes told to take 1mg per day. It is worth noting that 3 months or more of treatment are needed before any positive benefits are visible. It is necessary to keep taking this medicine in order to retain the benefits. Stopping treatment will result in any newly regrown hair being lost within 12 months.

Side effects
Taking Finpecia (Finasteride) to treat baldness (or any other condition) may cause patients to experience side effects, and a list of possible examples is provided here:

  • Headache
  • Testicular pain
  • Erectile problems
  • Ejaculation abnormalities
  • Breast tenderness or enlargement

It is advisable that you fully discuss the side effects of this drug with your doctor before starting treatment. In rare cases, serious reactions may occur. You must seek medical care straight away if this happens.

Precautions
These tablets are only prescribed to adult male patients, and are not to be used by women. In addition to this, there is a risk of the active ingredient being absorbed through the skin, especially if the tablet becomes crushed. Therefore, pregnant women must not handle the tablets.

If you have ever suffered from diseases affecting the liver or cancer of the prostate, or if you are currently affected by these conditions, you must tell your doctor before starting treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Finpecia (Finasteride) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
