Uses
Giro (Ornidazole) may be prescribed for a number of purposes. Specific types of infections occurring in the urinary tract, intestines or vagina (and in some cases, elsewhere in the body) may be treated with this medicine. It can treat infections caused by anaerobic (bacteria which require no oxygen) and parasites known as amoeba. Another use for this medicine is preventing these types of infections in patients undergoing surgery, and it has also been used for treating Crohn's disease. The main ingredient in this drug is a type of antiprotozoal medication which works by destroying the amoeba and bacteria that cause infections.

Dosage and Administration
The dosage of Giro (Ornidazole) that your doctor prescribed to you will depend on why you are being treated. Adults are sometimes told by their doctor to take 3 tablets (each of which contains 500mg of the active ingredient) in the evening time (with food), for a period of 1 to 3 days. However, other patients may be told to take 1 to 2 tablets in the morning and evening for 3 to 10 days. For patients undergoing surgery, it is possible that the patient will be told to take 3 tablets, 12 hours before the commencement of surgery. After surgery, the patient may be told to take one tablet every 12 hours, for 3 to 5 days after the surgery.
