Dermatitis Mometasone Furoate M-Mometasone cream

Uses
M-Mometasone cream (Mometasone Furoate) contains an active ingredient which is a type of synthetic topical corticosteroid. It is used to relieve pruritic manifestations and inflammation in patients affected by dermatoses which are responsive to corticosteroids (such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis).

This is achieved by preventing the release of inflammatory substances that are responsible for causing pain, itching and swelling. Doctors consider this cream to be potent when compared to other corticosteroids, and because of this, it is usually used when more mild corticosteroids have failed to work effectively.

Dosage and Administration
Doctors generally consider M-Mometasone cream (Mometasone Furoate) to be effective if used for lesions which are moist. If the skin that needs to be treated is dry and scaly, the patient may be told to use an ointment instead of a cream. Adults are usually instructed by their doctor to apply the ointment to the affected area of skin once per day. If an improvement in symptoms is not noticeable after 2 weeks of treatment, or if a skin infection occurs, you will need to see your doctor immediately.

Side effects
Use of M-Mometasone cream (Mometasone Furoate) to treat the skin may cause:

  • Crusting of the skin
  • Stretch marks visible on the skin
  • Burning sensation affecting the skin
  • Skin which becomes thinner or softer
  • Swelling affecting the hair follicles

Tell your doctor about any side effects which occur. In rare cases, serious reactions are possible. If this occurs, medical treatment will be required straight away.

Precautions
This cream should never be used on or near the eyes. In addition to this, use on the face is not safe unless advised to do so by a doctor, as it can worsen rosacea and cause peri-orofacial dermatitis.

Under no circumstances should this cream be ingested. It is for external use only.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use M-Mometasone cream (Mometasone Furoate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you suffer from any allergies.
  • If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
