Uses
Minipress XL (Prazosin) is an alpha-blocker indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). This medicine works by affecting the alpha-receptors so as to widen the blood vessels. Additional indications include the treatment of heart failure and Raynaud's disease. It has also been taken for benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate gland). As a result of the vasodilative effect produced by this medicine, the blood is able to flow more easily through the vessels, leading to a reduction in high blood pressure.

It also helps to improve the flow of blood to the feet and hands, which helps to relieve the symptoms of Raynaud's phenomenon. Affecting the alpha receptors found in the prostate gland also helps to trigger relaxation of the muscles here, which can improve the free flow of urine and provide effective relief from the symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. In some cases, your doctor may use this medicine for the treatment of other conditions not listed here.

Dosage and Administration
Minipress XL (Prazosin) comes as 5mg strength GITS (gastrointestinal therapeutic system) tablets, which is a type of extended release formulation. The dosage will be decided upon by your doctor, based on factors such as the condition requiring treatment, the severity of the symptoms and your medical history. It may also be necessary for your doctor to start you out with a low daily dosage, which may be adjusted so that the correct maintenance dosage can be determined. You must never take more than the amount recommended by your doctor.
