Uses
Procur (Cyproterone Acetate) is a an anti-androgen used to treat prostate cancer that cannot be operated on, excess hairiness in women, and in some cases to reduce sex drive in adult males. Procur is a tablet containing 50mg of cyproterone acetate.

Procur (Cyproterone Acetate) is an antiandrogen. This means it blocks the action of androgens (male sex hormones) in the body. It also reduces the formation of androgens in the testes, and by decreases ovarian function in females.

Dosage and Administration
Procur is cyproterone acetate in a tablet. Each tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Different conditions will require different dosages. Follow the exact dosages given by your doctor.

Common dosages are:

  • For prostate cancer: 50mg - 300mg daily
  • For reduction of sex drive: 50mg twice daily.
  • For women: 100mg per day from Day 1 to Day 10 of the menstrual cycle (taken in conjuction with a contraceptive pill).

Side effects
Procur has relatively few side effects, and most are mild and temporary. If you feel unweel while taking Procur, or notice any of the following, contact your doctor.

Common side effects:

  • tiredness or weakness
  • depresssion
  • temporary inner restlessness
  • changes in body weight

Less common and more serious side effects:

  • stomach discomfort or pain
  • shortness of breath
  • yellow skin and/or eyes (jaundice)
  • dark coloured urine
  • persistent or recurrent bleeding occurring at irregular intervals

Precautions
Some people may not be able to use Cyproterone Acetate. Your doctor should know your full medical history, especially:

  • if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you have any form of liver disease
  • if you have jaundice or have had it in the past
  • if you have herpes or have had it in the past
  • if you have suffered depression or other mental illness
  • if you have experienced blood clots
  • if you suffer from diabetes
  • if you have an abnormal red blood cell count
