Uses
Sodium Ascorbate Solution is a high-dose concentration of Vitamin C in solution for injection or infusion. Some people who are Vitamin C deficient cannot obtain sufficient Vitamin C orally. Cancer patients have recently been receiving Sodium Ascorbate injections as part of their treatment.

Dosage and Administration
Sodium Ascorbate solution is packaged as a 100mL vial containing 30g of sodium ascorbate. The solution is intended for use by infusion or injection.

Injections are usually performed in a doctor`s surgery or hospital. If they are being given at home, the person administering the injection must have been advised how to do so by medical staff.

Dosages will vary according to individual characteristics and the condition being treated. Follow all directions given by your doctor when you were prescribed this medicine.

Side effects
Side effects can occur while taking any medicine. You have been prescribed this vitamin because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this vitamin experience no serious side effects.

The most common side effects associate with sodium acscorbate ar diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps/pain, or heartburn. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Tell your doctor right away if you notice painful urination or pink/bloody urine. This is a serious side effect.

Serious allergic reactions to sodium ascorbate are rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these signs or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction:

  • rash
  • itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing

Other side effects are also possible. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
Sodium Ascorbate is not a suitable treatment for all people.

You must not take Sodium ascorbate if you have kidney disease or kidney stones.

Before taking Sodium Ascorbate, make sure your doctor is aware if you:

  • are allergic to any medicines
  • have haemochromatosis, thalassaemia, polycythemia, leukaemia or sideroblastic anaemia due to enhanced absorption of dietary iron
  • have high uric acidity
  • have high sodium levels
  • have sickle cell anemia
  • have G6PD (Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase Deficiency)
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding

Some medicines will prevent Sodium Ascorbate from working as intended, or may not working properly while you take sodium ascorbate. Tell your doctor of all medicines you are taking, especially if you are taking:

  • Aspirin
  • Iron Oral Supplements
  • Alcohol
  • Amphetamine or other anti-depressants
  • Dicoumarol or Warfarin
  • Ethinyloestradiol
  • Desferrioxamine
  • Isoprenaline
  • Mexiletine
  • Barbiturates, primidone, or any other sedatives
  • Fluphenazine
