Uses
Soranib (Sorafenib) is used for liver cancer and renal cell carcinoma. Its mechanism of action involves disrupting the growth of cancer cells in the body. In some cases, it may also be used for a type of thyroid cancer (differentiated thyroid carcinoma). The active ingredient in this medicine is known as a kinase inhibitor. Enzymes in the body called kinases are what helps the cancerous cells to grow.

They also help to cause blood vessels to supply the tumour with blood by forming new blood vessels (angiogenesis), which helps with the proliferation of the cancerous cells. Medical studies have demonstrated that this medicine can inhibit both multiple intracellular kinases, as well as cell surface kinases. This affects the tumour cells from growing and also stops blood vessels from reaching them. Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC or liver cancer) which is inoperable may be treated with this medicine, as well as those with advanced renal cell carcinoma.

Dosage and Administration

In general, doctors advise patients to continue treatment until it stops providing the patient with clinical benefits.
