Uses
Symbal (Duloxetine) is indicated for depression and anxiety. Some people have also taken it for fibromyalgia and chronic pain. This medicine works by potentiating the activity of the neurotransmitters serotonin and noradrenaline. It is categorized as a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (often abbreviated to SNRI), and by effectively inhibiting the reuptake of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, it helps to increase their action, in particular the effects on the mood (such as feelings of well being).

This may help to alleviate depression. Although this medicine's mechanism of action when used for the chronic condition fibromyalgia (and other disorders that cause pain, including arthritis and chronic back pain), it has been hypothesized that chronic pain could be related to the role of nerves, neurotransmitters and receptors in the brain, and by acting on the brain in this way, it may exhibit an analgesic effect.

Dosage and Administration
Symbal (Duloxetine) comes as 40mg strength enteric coated tablets for administration by mouth. This medicine can be used for anxiety, depression and pain, and as such, the dosage schedule and frequency of administration can differ for each condition. When used to manage pain caused by peripheral neuropathy or musculoskeletal disorders (such as arthritis), the patient may be told to take 60mg per day, or else a lower dosage than this.

Patients treating depression may be told to take a daily dosage ranging from 40mg to 60 mg per day. However, because your doctor will also need to take your health history into consideration, this may differ for certain individuals. Always follow the dosage instructions given by your doctor.

Side effects
Symbal (Duloxetine) could cause:

• Cramps
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Poor appetite
• Sweating, often during the night

Inform your doctor if you suffer from any side effects. Should you be affected by any of the rare but serious side effects caused by this medicine, you will need medical help right away. Examples include blurred eyesight, blistering, stiffness which affects the muscles, bleeding, bruising or any other severe reactions not mentioned here.

Precautions
This medication may cause some patients to experience high blood pressure. Your doctor may conduct blood pressure checks before the commencement of treatment, and during treatment.

Patients who are suffering from, or who have a history of glaucoma may be told by their doctor not to take this medicine.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Symbal (Duloxetine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
