Uses
Zelgor (Abiraterone) is a treatment for prostate cancer that is resistant to hormonal or surgical treatment, otherwise known as Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC). Abiraterone needs to be taken in conjunction with prednisone.

Abiraterone helps with the management of prostate cancer by decreasing the productions of androgens (such as testosterone). It does this by inhibiting androgen production at three different sites - the tumor itself, the testes, and the adrenal glands.

Dosage and Administration
Each tablet of Zelgor contains 250mg of Abiraterone Acetate. Follow the dosage instructions exactly as described by your doctor. Usually this will involve one dose per day.

Zelgor (Abiraterone) must be taken without food (on an empty stomach). Avoid eating for two hours before and one hour after taking Abiraterone.

Swallow your Abiraterone tablets whole with a glass of water. The tablets should not be crushed or chewed.

Use contraception while practicing sex with your partner if they are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Side effects
Zelgor (Abiraterone) has been known to cause serious side effects in some patients. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood)
  • edema (fluid retention)

If you notice any of the following while taking Zelgor (Abiraterone), contact your doctor:

  • dizziness
  • fast heartbeats
  • feel faint or lightheaded
  • headache
  • confusion
  • muscle weakness
  • pain in your legs
  • swelling in your legs or feet
  • adrenal problems
  • liver problems

The most common side effects of Zelgor (Abiraterone) are:

  • weakness
  • joint swelling or pain
  • swelling in your legs or feet
  • hot flushes
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • cough
  • high blood pressure
  • shortness of breath
  • urinary tract infection
  • bruising
  • low red blood cells (anemia) and low blood potassium levels
  • high blood sugar levels, high blood cholesterol and triglycerides
  • certain other abnormal blood tests

Precautions
Zelgor (Abiraterone) is indicated only for men in advanced stages of prostate cancer. It is not to be taken by women or children. Tablets must not be handled by women who are pregnant or wanting to become pregnant.

Tell you doctor if you have any of the following conditions before starting treatment:

  • heart problems
  • liver problems
  • adrenal problems
  • any other medical conditions
  • taking any other medicines or supplements
