Uses

Rexacrom Eye Drops (Sodium Cromoglicate) is an antiallergic drug that acts to stabilize mast cell membranes, to prevent asthmatic reactions after inhaling non-antigenic stimuli and allergens, as well as preventing the release of inflammatory mediators (heparin, histamine, bradykinin, serotonin and others).

Rexacrom Eye Drops (Sodium Cromoglicate) prevents the release of mediators of type I allergic reactions, including histamine and cysteinil leukotrienes (slowly reacting anaphylaxis [SRS-A]), from sensitized mast cells following the formation of the antigen-antibody complex. Sodium cromoglycate suppresses mediated IgE release of mediators (for example, histamine, cysteinil leukotrienes) from mast cells. The drug also to a lesser extent inhibits reactions of type III (late allergic reactions). The action of sodium cromoglycate on mast cells is not limited to antigen-induced secretion, since it has been shown that the drug also inhibits secretion induced by other mast cell cytotoxic stimulators (e.g., polyamine 48/80).

It appears that sodium cromoglycate inhibits phospholipase-A induced degradation of mast cells and further release of chemical mediators in vitro. It is believed that the drug can block calcium channels in mast cells. It was also suggested that sodium cromoglycate may inhibit the release of histamine from mast cells by regulating the phosphorylation of a specific mastocyte protein that is involved in secretory mechanisms.
