Uses
Canditral (Itraconazole) is a type of antifungal drug which is prescribed by doctors as a treatment for fungal infections that can affect various parts of the body, such as the lungs, toenails and fingernails. In some cases, it may be given to patients with HIV to help prevent fungal infections. This medication is in a class of drugs known as triazoles, and it works by inhibiting the growth of the fungi responsible for causing the infection.

Dosage and Administration
Canditral (Itraconazole) tablets are taken by mouth. The dosage required depends on what condition is being treated. Fingernail infections might require taking this drug once per day for 1 week, and then temporarily ceasing treatment for 3 weeks. After this, it may be necessary to take it twice per day for a week. Patients treating toenail infections might be told to take it once pear day with a meal for 3 months. However, in all cases, patients need to continue taking it until their doctor tells them that their condition has been properly treated.

Side effects
Before you start taking Canditral (Itraconazole) tablets, it is important to note that it may cause some side effects, such as:

• Loss of hair
• Pain in the joints
• A decrease in sexual ability
• Changes in mood or depression
• Sores visible in the mouth or bleeding of the gums

While you are taking this drug to treat your condition, it is recommended that you tell your doctor if you notice signs of side effects. In rare cases, this medication may cause severe side effects that require immediate medical attention. Consult your doctor straight away if you notice fever, a ringing noise in the ears, urination problems, skin problems, light sensitivity or any other reactions.

Precautions
There is a possibility that treatment with this drug can cause congestive heart failure. If you have or have ever suffered from any conditions affecting the heart, you must inform your doctor prior to the commencement of treatment, as this drug may not be suitable for you.

Older patients might be at risk of hearing loss while undergoing treatment with this medication. Ask your doctor about this if you are concerned.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Canditral (Itraconazole) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
