Uses
Ivermectol (Ivermectin) is an anthelmintic medications used to treat a variety of parasitic infestations. It kills the parasite by paralysing it. Ivermectin is most commonly used to treat onchocerciasis (river blindness), but it is also used in the treatment of other worm infestations (such as strongyloidiasis, ascariasis, trichuriasis, filariasis and enterobiasis), and some epidermal parasitic skin diseases, including scabies.

Dosage and Administration
Ivermectol is packaged as a box of 50 tablets, with 6mg of Ivermectin in each tablet.

The dosage you will be prescribed will depend on the condition being treated. In most cases, a dosage of 0.15mg/kg - 0.2mg/kg is prescribed.

Take Ivermectol on an empty stomach (1 hour before food or 2 hours after food). Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Side effects
Ivermectin is well tolerated by most people, however it can cause some side effects including:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sleepiness
  • Stomach pain
  • Chest discomfort
  • Tremor
  • Weakness

Precautions
Ivermectin must not be taken by children under 5 years of age and with a weight of less than 15kg.

Prior to treatment with Ivermectol (Ivermectin), tell your doctor if you:

  • are sensitive to ivermectin
  • have concurrent loa loa infection
  • suffer from brain problems
  • have a bleeding disorder
  • have asthma

Ivermectol (Ivermectin) should not be taken by pregnant or breast-feeding women.
