Uses
Metaspray Nasal Spray (Mometasone Furoate) is a corticosteroid used to alleviate the nasal symptoms associated with seasonal and year round allergies (perennial or seasonal allergic rhinitis), or to prevent the occurrence of symptoms caused by these conditions. It may also be used to treat nasal polyps. It is widely believed by medical experts that corticosteroids exhibit many different effects on various different cells and mediators of inflammation.
These can include lymphocytes, mast cells and histamine. By acting inside the nasal passage, directly on the cells present there, this medicine is able to prevent the release of inflammatory chemicals, thereby helping to prevent the allergic response and ameliorate the symptoms of hay fever (such as a blocked nose, sneezing and sinus problems). The anti-inflammatory effects of the spray also help to shrink nasal polyps.
Dosage and Administration
Metaspray Nasal Spray (Mometasone Furoate) comes in a bottle, to facilitate administration via the nasal route. There is enough medicine contained to give you 100 metered dose administrations, and each metered dose delivers 50mcg of the main active corticosteroid into the nose.
Your doctor will determine the right daily dosage, and will also tell you when is best to start treatment. If you are using it to prevent hay fever symptoms, it is possible that you will be told to begin use before the pollen season begins. Only use the amount your doctor directs you to use, and never exceed the recommended dosage.
