Uses
Aldactone (Spironolactone) is a potassium sparing diuretic which works by triggering an increased amount of sodium and water removed by the kidneys and released into the urine. This is achieved by blocking aldosterone activity (the hormone in the adrenal glands that plays an important role in sodium and fluid control). Conditions for which people have taken it for include high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, primary hyperaldosteronism, hirsutism caused by polycystic ovary syndrome, low potassium levels and other conditions not listed here.

Dosage and Administration
Aldactone (Spironolactone) is provided in the form of tablets for oral administration. The medicine content of each tablet is 25mg. A number of factors will need to be considered by your doctor when determining the correct dosage, and the correct amount of medicine can vary for each patient depending on the condition that is being treated. Adults undergoing treatment for oedema, hypertension or hypokalaemia may be told to take a dosage ranging from 25mg to 200mg per day, as 1 to 2 divided doses. Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Other conditions may require a different dosage.
