Azee 1000 (Azithromycin) belongs to a subclass of macrolide antibiotics known as azalides. It has bactericidal action against many different gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This antibiotic works by blocking the synthesis of RNA-dependent protein, which is achieved by binding to the ribosome of susceptible bacteria. As a result of this, the growth and replication of the bacteria responsible for the infection is blocked.

Uses
Azee 1000 (Azithromycin) belongs to a subclass of macrolide antibiotics known as azalides. It has bactericidal action against many different gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This antibiotic works by blocking the synthesis of RNA-dependent protein, which is achieved by binding to the ribosome of susceptible bacteria. As a result of this, the growth and replication of the bacteria responsible for the infection is blocked. When the infection is unable to spread, any bacteria which are leftover will be destroyed by the immune system, allowing the infection to heal.

This antibiotic is used for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, nongonococcal urethritis and other sexually transmitted diseases. Other conditions include bacterial pharyngitis, pneumonia, Lyme disease, MAC (mycobacterium avium complex disease), skin infections, soft tissue infections and any other conditions determined by your doctor. It has also been used to prevent the occurrence of certain infections. Medical studies have been carried out to determine its effects if used in the prevention of exacerbations of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The aim of this research was to find out whether or not it reduced the occurrence of exacerbations in certain patients affected by COPD.

Dosage and Administration
Azee 1000 (Azithromycin) is supplied as one tablet, which contains 1000mg of the active component. The dosage needed will be decided by your doctor, based on what condition needs treatment. In some cases, adult patients affected by non-gonococcal urethritis or cervicitis caused by chlamydia trachomatis are treated with a single 1g dosage. This is equal to one tablet (1000mg strength). Other conditions often require a different dosage regimen. It is important that patients taking antibiotic continue treatment for the entire period of time that their doctor deems necessary (unless the doctor provides instructions to the contrary), so that the infection can be fully treated.
