Uses
Buspirone 5 (Buspirone Hydrochloride) is an antianxiety medication which works by affecting neurotransmitters present in the brain, so as to help the patient relax. It is referred to as a type of azaspirodecanedione anxiolytic. However, it is said to have some differences in relation to other anxiolytics, such as the lack of muscle relaxant effects. The precise way in which it works is extremely complicated, however some medical experts have suggested that some of its effects may be mediated by certain receptors, such as the 5-HT1A receptor.

Different neuroreceptor systems are also believed to play a role in its action. This may lead to the release of serotonin being inhibited, thereby reducing serotonin activity on the brain. As a result of this, symptoms such as irritability, sleep problems and perspiration may be treated. Patients may also notice relief from symptoms such as tension. This medicine has been researched, to find out its effects if used to treat ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) or sexual side effects caused by certain medicines, however it is generally used as an anxiety treatment.

Dosage and Administration
Buspirone 5 (Buspirone Hydrochloride) is provided as 5mg tablets which are administered orally in strict accordance with the instructions of the doctor responsible for treatment. Adult patients undergoing treatment for anxiety may be told by their doctor to begin with an initial dosage of 5mg, administered 3 times per day. Depending on the response of the patient, the dosage may be adjusted by the doctor in increments of 5mg, at 2 to 3 day intervals. The maintenance dosage usually ranges from 20mg to 60mg (given as separate doses), and the maximum dosage is 60mg per day. However, patients must not make any changes to their dosing schedule. Any adjustments will only be made if the doctor deems it necessary.
