Uses
Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) is an antiseptic gel with anaesthetic properties that is indicated for the treatment of teething pain. It is made using a combination of ingredients which work in different ways. Cetylpyridinium chloride is frequently used in mouthwashes and toothpastes for its antibacterial and plaque preventing properties, and is also known to be able to reduce gingivitis. It can protect against infection. Lidocaine relieves pain by affecting the way in which pain signals are sent from the nerves, thereby helping to numb the area to which it is applied. This provides relief from pain.

Dosage and Administration
Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) should only be used to treat infants or children if your doctor deems it safe to do so. A medical checkup with the doctor will be needed in order to ensure that it is safe to use. Usually, doctors advise rubbing a small quantity of the gel onto the gums, directly at the area affected. Doctors have stated that it can be applied up to 6 times per day, however it should not be applied within 20 minutes of application. Ensure that you follow all instructions provided by your doctor.

Side effects
Should any reactions occur as a result of using Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) as a treatment for the symptoms listed above, treatment should be stopped and a doctor consulted. If any serious side effects occur, get medical help straight away.

Precautions
Avoid applying too much of this gel, as doing so could result in reactions or side effects. Only use it to treat children if a doctor has clearly told you that it is safe and suitable to use.
