Uses
Cipflox (Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride) is an antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria. It works by interfering with the replication and recombination of the microorganisms. This medicine belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, and its mechanism of action differs significantly to that of penicillins and other types of antibiotics. For this reason, it may be used in cases where resistance to other treatments has occurred.

Bactericidal action against gram negative and gram positive microorganisms is exhibited by this medicine, and this is due to it inhibiting topoisomerase enzymes (DNA gyrase). These enzymes are essential if the bacteria are to grow, repair or recombine and without them, the bacterial DNA material is affected and the bacteria are eventually destroyed. Indications for this medicine include gonorrhoea, septicaemia, pneumonia, ear infections, cystitis, kidney infections, typhoid fever and other disorders not mentioned here. It may also be used to prevent infection in patients who are undergoing surgical procedures.

Dosage and Administration
Cipflox (Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride) is provided as 500mg strength tablets. Your doctor will thoroughly assess your condition, and upon diagnosis of your infection, a suitable dosage schedule can be determined. Adults being treated for infectious diarrhoea may be instructed to administer 500mg by mouth at 12 hour intervals, with treatment lasting from 5 to 7 days.

Patients treating osteomyelitis may also be told to take 500mg every 12 hours, and treatment may need to continue for 4 to 6 weeks. Chronic bacterial prostatitis is often treated with 500mg at 12 hour intervals, with the duration of treatment lasting 28 days. Other types of infections may require a dosage regimen which differs to that listed above, and patients are advised to closely follow the instructions of their doctor.

Your doctor will wish to keep informed about your condition, and it will be necessary to report all side effects which occur.
