Cosmelite Cream (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin/Mometasone Furoate) is a triple combination cream used for melasma and hyperpigmented skin. Its mechanism of action involves lightening the skin and removing excess pigments while also reducing inflammation. Hydroquinone is a commonly used bleaching agent that has become popular with dermatologists. When applied topically, it penetrates the skin and block melanogenesis (the production of melanin).

This in turn helps reduce the amount of melanin (the skin pigment) that is found in the skin, resulting in a lightening effect and whiter skin. Tretinoin is a retinoid which is related to vitamin A and is also referred to by the name all-trans retinoic acid. It works in various ways, one of which is helping to increase the amount of pigment removal in the skin by causing an increase in the proliferation of skin cell turnover (especially the keratinocyte skin cells on the outer layer of skin).

It can also help to guard the other ingredients from oxidation and increase the amount of hydroquinone that is absorbed by the skin. Finally, mometasone furoate (which is a topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid) is added so as to lessen any possible inflammation that may occur as a result of the other ingredients. It may even help to block melanocytes from being metabolised. Dermatological studies carried out on this cream showed that after skin peels, an improvement occurred in some patients.

Dosage and Administration
Cosmelite Cream (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin/Mometasone Furoate) is applied topically to the skin. However, your dermatologist or doctor will need to carefully examine how severe the amount of hyperpigmentation is before the correct frequency of application can be determined. In some cases, daily use may not be recommended (so as to lessen the risk of side effects). Your doctor will regularly examine your progress to ensure that treatment is having its desired effects. The duration of treatment will also depend on the results and will be decided upon by your doctor.
