Uses
Diclax SR (Diclofenac Sodium) is an analgesic and anti-inflammatory medicine which works by affecting the synthesis of prostaglandins, thereby relieving pain and other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and other related conditions. Prostaglandins are a type of fatty acids which occur in the body and play an important role in various bodily functions, including the inflammatory response.

Generally, inflammation occurs as part of the immune system's reaction to injury and infection. Arthritis causes pain and swelling in the joints, which can often have a serious impact on the patient's mobility. However, by blocking prostaglandin synthesis, this medicine is able to relieve pain, inflammation and fever. Additional indications include pain and swelling following orthopaedic surgery or dental procedures, primary dysmenorrhoea and various other disorders not listed here.

Dosage and Administration
Diclax SR (Diclofenac Sodium) is provided as 100mg strength tablets which are taken with a meal. Do not chew them, as this will damage the coating which is specially designed to prevent the tablets from dissolving until they pass into the bowel. Your doctor will assess your symptoms in order to determine the correct daily dosage and it will be necessary for you to follow the instructions given to you. Never take more than your doctor recommends for you. Patients treating pain should notice its effects a few hours after administering it, however it may take some weeks until the full benefits are noticed. It is important to note that although this medicine can relieve the symptoms, it will not cure your condition.

Side effects
When taking Diclax SR (Diclofenac Sodium) tablets, it is possible that some side effects may occur, including:

• Itchy sensation
• Digestive upset
• Perspiring more than usual
• Loose stools or constipation
• Inflammation affecting the legs or arms

You must report all side effects to your doctor. If you suffer from any rare but serious side effects, go to the hospital for immediate emergency treatment. These can include reduced or no urination, inflammation affecting the feet, fever, low energy levels, unusual weight gain and other severe side effects not listed here.

Precautions
You should not use these tablets for longer than your doctor deems necessary. Long term use may increase the risk of strokes or heart attacks.

This medicine should not be taken by patients suffering from an ulcer or stomach bleeding, as doing so may worsen the condition.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Diclax SR (Diclofenac Sodium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
