Uses
E-MYCIN (Erythromycin Ethyl Succinate) is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including pneumonia, venereal disease, Legionnaires' disease, whopping cough and bronchitis. It is also considered effective in treating ear, urinary tract, skin and various other types of infection that can occur in the body. This drug is a macrolide antibiotic, which works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria by decreasing the productions of proteins essential to the survival of the bacteria.

Dosage and Administration
If your doctor has told you to take E-MYCIN (Erythromycin Ethyl Succinate) tablets to treat your infection, it is vital that you only take the amount prescribed to you. Your doctor will may tell you to take it 4 times per day, at 6 hour intervals, or else 3 times per day, at 8 hour intervals. The period of treatment can vary, depending on how severe the infection is, but it will normally last for 7 to 21 days. Continue taking the medication until you have finished taking the entire prescribed other amount, otherwise your infection will not be properly treated.

Side effects
Treatment with E-MYCIN (Erythromycin Ethyl Succinate) may cause some patients to experience side effects. Some possible reactions are listed here:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Appetite loss
  • Cramps in the stomach
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Itching of the vagina
