Furoxone (Furazolidone) is effective against protozoa (tiny organisms which can cause infections) as well as gram negative and gram positive bacteria. Conditions treated with this medicine include colitis, cholera, traveller's diarrhoea, bacteremic salmonellosis and giardiasis. Certain medical experts have also proposed using it as a treatment for infections caused by helicobacter pylori.

Dosage and Administration
Furoxone (Furazolidone) 100mg tablets need to be taken exactly as instructed by your doctor. Adults treating diarrhoea or cholera occurring as a result of bacteria may be directed to take 100mg, 4 times per day, with treatment lasting for 5 to 7 days. If the patient is being treated for giardiasis, it is possible that the prescribing doctor will tell the patient to take 100mg, 4 times per day, and the period of treatment may last for 7 to 10 days. All patients must consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
