High blood pressure treatment Enalapril Maleate M-Enalapril

Uses
M-Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) is used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure and diabetic nephropathy. Its mechanism of action is reducing vasoconstriction in the blood vessels. This helps them to widen and leads to a drop in high blood pressure. Treatment may involve being combined with other medicines, however it is also given on its own. The main ingredient of these tablets is a prodrug, and it is converted to its active form after absorption by the patient.

By functioning as an ACE (angiontensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor, this medicine helps to block the production of angiotensin II (a substance which is known to cause the blood vessels to tighten). This has a widening effect on the blood vessels, resulting in lowered blood pressure. Also, it makes it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body, which makes it effective in treating heart failure.

Dosage and Administration
M-Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) tablets are 10mg in strength. Adults treating diabetic nephropathy or hypertension might be instructed by their doctor to start out by taking 5mg once per day. Following this, the doctor will adjust the dosage, and after adjustments, the patient may be told to take from 10mg to 40mg per day, as 1 to 2 separated doses. Treatment of congestive heart failure or other conditions might need a different dosage schedule. Patients will be required to adhere to all instructions given by their doctor during treatment.

Side effects
As with all other medicines, M-Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) comes with the risk of side effects. Examples can include:

Precautions
High blood pressure is an ongoing condition and it cannot be cured by medicine. Your doctor may direct you to continue taking it so as to ensure that the symptoms are kept under control.

Routine medical checkups will be ordered by your doctor, so that your blood pressure and functioning of the kidneys and liver can be checked.

Always use M-Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
