Menstrual or hormonal disorders Micronised Progesterone Microgest

Uses
Microgest (Micronised Progesterone) contains an active ingredient which is a female sex hormone that plays a key role in menstruation and pregnancy. Progesterone is generally insufficiently absorbed if taken by mouth, however if it is micronised, this allows for increased absorption after oral administration, and offers an alternative to transdermal or other forms of administration.

Conditions for which it is indicated include replacing progesterone levels in women with a progesterone deficiency, so as to restore periods which may have ceased and being used in combination with oestrogens in females who are undergoing HRT (hormone replacement therapy) so as to lessen the risk of endometrial cancer. A number of medical studies have also taken place, which aimed to test its efficacy in treating hot flushing and sweating in postmenopausal women.

Dosage and Administration
Microgest (Micronised Progesterone) comes as softgel capsules which are for vaginal or oral use (your doctor will tell you the correct route of administration, and will also provide you with a dosage schedule). Each capsule contains 100mg of medicine. Adult females undergoing treatment for amenorrhoea are sometimes instructed by their doctor to take 400mg by mouth for a period of 10 days with the medicine taken in the evening. However, this can vary depending on individual circumstances and other conditions may also require a different amount of medicine. Therefore all patients must only administer the dosage that their doctor directs them to take.
