Allergic rhinitis Mometasone aqueous Nasonex Nasal Spray

Uses
Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone aqueous) is used for hay fever, indoor (perennial) allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps. It works by stopping the allergic reaction. This medicine belongs to a class of drugs called synthetic corticosteroids and is known to have potent anti-inflammatory effects. In general, patients with outdoor allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial (indoor) allergic rhinitis may experience an aggravation of symptoms when the nasal mucosa is exposed to allergens such as pollen from trees or plants, pet hair or dust mites.

This in turn triggers nasal congestion due to the immune system releasing chemicals, causing inflammation of the blood vessels in the nose. Irritation in the mucous membrane can also occur, which often leads to sneezing. Itching of the nose or a runny nose is also possible. Although the leading medical experts have stated that its exact mechanism of action in the treatment of allergies is not thoroughly understood, it is known to act in the cells of the nasal passages, where it can help inhibit the release of chemicals that trigger the allergic reaction (known as mediators of inflammation).

As a direct result of this, this product is able to unblock the nose and provide effective relief from the other symptoms of allergies. It can even be used to prevent allergies from occurring. A medical study was conducted which showed potential as a medical treatment for acute rhinosinusitis, and it has also been researched for its effects if used to prevent snoring.

Dosage and Administration
Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone aqueous) is administered directly into the nasal passage. Before the first use, the pump will need to be primed. This can be done by removing the cap, shaking the bottle and pressing the pump a number of times until you can see a fine mist. Patients are generally advised to administer it regularly so as to achieve the best results.

To use it, you must move the head slightly forward and place the tip of the bottle into the nose (making sure that the solution is not sprayed onto the wall separating the nostrils). After this, you can press on the bottle to deliver the medicine. Inhale through your nose but ensure that you exhale through the mouth. Repeat this process with the other nostril. Your doctor will tell you how much to use with each administration, as well as how often you need to use it.
