Uses
Stef 1gm Injection (Ceftazidime) is a cephalosporin antibiotic (these type of antibiotics are related to penicillin). This medicines mode of action involves targeting the bacteria that cause infections, and it is considered effective against many different types of bacteria. Doctors may deem it necessary to take a sample of tissue, so as to ensure that the bacteria are susceptible to this antibiotic.

Conditions treated include meningitis caused by bacteria, lung infections, soft tissue infections (such as abscesses), peritonitis, malignant otitis externa, urinary tract infections and other severe infections.

Dosage and Administration
Stef 1gm Injection (Ceftazidime) is injected either intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) by a doctor. Treatment generally takes place in a hospital or other sterile medical facility. Your doctor will determine the correct dose (which will vary from patient to patient, depending on the condition being treated), and you must listen carefully to any instructions provided to you.

Treatment of nosocomial pneumonia sometimes requires a dose of 2g (given intravenously) at 8 hour intervals. Treatment generally lasts for the shortest possible period of time. Malignant otitis externa is also sometimes treated with 2g (intravenously) every 8 hours, with treatment lasting as long as the prescribing doctor deems necessary (2 to 6 weeks in some cases). Osteomyelitis, melioidosis, meningitis and any other condition being treated may require a different dosage regimen, and in all cases, the dosage amount will be decided by the prescribing doctor.
