High blood pressure and fluid retention Indapamide Hemihydrate Dapa-Tabs

Uses
Dapa-Tabs (Indapamide Hemihydrate) is a medicine used to lower high blood pressure in cases where there is no known cause for it. In addition to this, it is widely used to treat excess salt and fluid build up in patients affected by congestive heart failure. This drug is a type of water tablet (doctors call it a diuretic), and it helps to stop the absorption of excess amounts of salt and water by the body. It achieves this by causing an increase in the amount of salt and water that are drawn out from the blood and into the urine. As a result of this, fluid retention is reduced, and high blood pressure decreased.

Dosage and Administration
Precise and accurate dosage instructions will be given to you by your doctor before you start taking Dapa-Tabs (Indapamide Hemihydrate). However, a medical consultation will be required, in order to determine the dosage. The most common dose for adult patients treating hypertension is 1.25mg per day. This dosage may be adjusted if deemed necessary by the prescribing doctor. Oedema (fluid retention) is often treated with an initial dose of 2.5mg per day, which may be altered if your doctor sees fit. Remember that you should not take this medicine within 4 hours of bedtime, otherwise, you may wake up during the night to urinate.

Side effects
All medicines carry with them a risk of side effects, and Dapa-Tabs (Indapamide Hemihydrate) are not exception. However, most side effects are not serious. When you see your doctor, you can discuss the risk of side effects with him or her. Some examples are listed here:

  • Increased urination
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Cramps in the stomach
  • Increased thirst
  • Decreased blood potassium levels

During the course of treatment, it is strongly recommended that you inform the prescribing doctor of any side effects that occur, doing so promptly if they persist or become severe. Serious side effects are also possible, and require immediate medical attention. Examples include purpura, pancreatitis, hypercalcaemia, hypotension and hyponatraemia (decreased blood sodium levels). This list is not complete, and other reactions may occur. Ask your doctor for more details.

Precautions
A full disclosure of your medical history must be made to your doctor before starting treatment, especially if you suffer from or have ever been affected by kidney disease, gout, liver disease, sympathectomy or parathyroid/thyroid diseases.

Alcohol can increase drowsiness if taken alongside this drug. Your doctor will most likely tell you to reduce or avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medicine.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Dapa-Tabs (Indapamide Hemihydrate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
