Main Use Active Ingredient Marketed Name
Hyperpigmentation Hydroquinone Eukroma

Eukroma (Hydroquinone) is used for the treatment of patches of skin which have become darker than the surrounding skin, such as chloasma, melasma and freckles. This hyperpigmentation can occur as a result of injury, medicine or pregnancy. The cream functions as a whitening agent by reducing a pigment called melanin (this pigment is what gives the skin a brown colour). This blocks the discolouration of the skin.

Dosage and Administration
Eukroma (Hydroquinone) must be applied topically, however, it is important that patients follow all of the instructions given by their doctor. Adults treating cholasma, melasma, senile lentigines or certain other conditions may be told by their doctor to apply the cream to the area of skin that is affected by melanin hyperpigmentation twice per day. During treatment, the skin may become sensitive to cold temperatures or wind. Your doctor may give you advice on how to protect your skin.

Side effects
Skin treated with Eukroma (Hydroquinone) may show signs of side effects, such as:

  • Stinging
  • Itchiness
  • Mild irritation
  • Signs of redness
  • Burning sensation

While you are treating hyperpigmented skin with this cream, you should inform your doctor if any side effects occur. You will need medical attention immediately if you notice severe skin irritation or any other serious side effects.

If you have a history of asthma, psoriasis, eczema or any other conditions affecting the skin, it is important to tell this to your doctor before starting treatment.

Patients must avoid exposing the skin to the sun or UV rays from artificial sunlamps, as this cream can increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, which could result in sunburn.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Eukroma (Hydroquinone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you suffer from any allergies.
  • If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
  • If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
  • If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
