Uses
Melalong (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin) is applied topically to the face so as to treat hyperpigmentation and reduce the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines. It works by lightening the skin and helping it to rejuvenate. This facial cream is made from 2 different ingredients. Hydroquinone is a depigmenting agent widely used to bleach the skin, especially as a treatment for skin discolouration due to melasma. A pigment known as melanin is present in the skin, which gives it a darker skin tone. Some people may experience darkened areas on the skin (freckles or age spots) due to damage from the sun, hormonal factors or other causes.

This cream affects melanogenesis and helps reduce the amount of melanin formed. As a result of this, the darkened areas of skin can be lightened. Tretinoin is often used to treat acne. It is derived from vitamin A, and is known to work by increasing the turnover of skin cells while also preventing the skin cells from sticking together. Combining these 2 ingredients may be beneficial, not only in reducing abnormal pigmentation, but in helping promote the growth of new skin, allowing for an overall improvement in the appearance of the skin.

Dosage and Administration
Melalong (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin) cream is provided as a 2 per cent strength formulation. It should be applied directly to the area of the face that is affected by hyperpigmentation. However, special care will be needed to make sure that none of it gets into the nose, mouth or eyes. The amount of daily applications required as well as the duration of treatment will be decided upon by your doctor or dermatologist. Excess application must be avoided, due to the risk of side effects and patients should note that treatment of hyperpigmentation only requires that the cream be applied to affected skin and not the surrounding skin.

Side effects
Use of Melalong (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin) cream may lead to some side effects, including:

• Redness
• Itchy feeling
• Irritated skin
• Photosensitivity
• Stinging sensation

Should any of the side effects listed above prove to be serious in nature, get medical help immediately. Also, if you suffer from blisters, bleeding, abnormal skin discolouration or any other serious side effects, go to see your doctor straight away.

Precautions
Do not use this cream on skin which is broken, sunburned, irritated, wounded or excessively dry. Check with your doctor before using any other cosmetic products.

This cream is approved for external use on the skin only. Under no circumstances should the contents of this tube be consumed orally.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Melalong (Hydroquinone/Tretinoin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
