Uses
Nicotinell TTS 10 (Nicotine) transdermal patches are used for quitting smoking. This form of treatment is referred to as nicotine replacement therapy, as it aims to substitute the nicotine that a smoker would normally obtain from a cigarette with nicotine delivered directly to the bloodstream via a patch on the skin. As nicotine is addictive, people may suffer withdrawal symptoms and cravings. This patch aims to relieve these symptoms, without the need to smoke a cigarette, and when used properly alongside behavioural therapy, it may help make it easier for smokers to eventually give up smoking entirely.

Dosage and Administration
Nicotinell TTS 10 (Nicotine) patches each contain 17.5mg of nicotine, and on average, the rate of absorption is 7mg in a 24 hour period. Your doctor will advise you on the correct strength of patch to use, as heavier smokers may need to use a stronger patch when beginning treatment. Generally, these nicotine patches (TTS 10) are used by patients who have already undergone step 2 of the nicotinell patch treatment plan (use of the TTS 20 patches). In all cases, it will be necessary to see your doctor for advice on which patch to use, how to use it, and how long you will need to continue using it for.

Side effects
Use of Nicotinell TTS 10 (Nicotine) as a stop smoking aid may cause side effects, such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Coughing
  • Insomnia
  • Dizzy sensation
  • Itchiness or irritation at the patch application site

If you are concerned about any side effects, tell your doctor. There is also a possibility that serious side effects will occur. You must go to the hospital for immediate treatment if this happens.

Precautions
Ensure that any used patches are properly disposed of.

Never apply more than one patch at any one time, as this could be dangerous.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Nicotinell TTS 10 (Nicotine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
