Uses
Nicotinell TTS 30 (Nicotine) is used for nicotine replacement therapy, to help people who are addicted to nicotine give up smoking. Heavy smokers may also be advised to use these patches to help lessen the amount of cigarettes smoked. This product uses a transdermal delivery system, so as to allow a controlled amount of nicotine to be absorbed into the bloodstream over a period of 24 hours.

Smokers frequently experience strong cravings for cigarettes when they do not smoke, and these cravings are often accompanied by withdrawal symptoms that can include insomnia, headaches and feelings of restlessness. Application of these patches helps to ease these symptoms, while also helping people resist their cravings to smoke. Studies have been conducted which showed that NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) significantly increased the likelihood of successfully giving up smoking.

Dosage and Administration
Each Nicotinell TTS 30 (Nicotine) transdermal patch contains 52.5mg of nicotine, and the average rate at which it is absorbed is 21mg per 24 hours. This particular strength of patch is usually recommended for heavy smokers (people smoking more than 20 cigarettes each day), and is generally referred to as step 1. Heavy smokers may be directed by their doctor to use step 1 patches for a period of 3 to 4 weeks, after which step 2 patches (which have a lower nicotine content) are used for the next 3 to 4 weeks. Following this, a lighter strength patch (step 3) is recommended for the last 3 to 4 weeks of treatment. Doctors generally state that treatment beyond 3 months is usually not recommended. Patients should note that a new nicotine patch should be applied every 24 hours, and the old patch disposed of. Never apply 2 patches simultaneously.

Side effects
Patients undergoing nicotine replacement therapy with Nicotinell TTS 30 (Nicotine) might experience some side effects, and a list of examples is provided here:

Precautions
These patches may not be suitable for patients with dermatitis or psoriasis.

It is important to note that exercising while the patch is worn may cause an increased amount of nicotine to enter the blood, and this could potentially result in increased side effects.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Nicotinell TTS 30 (Nicotine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
