Uses
Thyro3 (Liothyronine Sodium) is indicated in people suffering from an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It is a synthetic version of triiodothyronine (T3), a thyroid hormone which is usually produced by the thyroid gland. Sometimes hypothyroidism occurs naturally, sometimes it occurs from injury to the thyroid gland (often caused radiation or medication), or it can occur due to surgical removal of the thyroid gland. Liothyronine Sodium is also used to reduce thyroid function in certain cases such as goiters (enlarged thyroid glands) or Hashimoto`s thyroiditis (an auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland).

Dosage and Administration
Please contact your doctor to discuss a starting dosage. It will depend on your age, weight, previous history and severity of your condition. A general starting dosage for hypothyroidism is 25mcg for adults and 5mcg for children. You will require regular blood test to check for thyroid hormone levels and your doctor may need to change your dosage through out treatment.

For goiter or myxedema 5mg is often used as a strating dosae. This may be adjusted to a higher dosage as required.

One side effect of Liothyronine Sodium is that you may end up with too high or too low a concentration of thyroid hormone. If you experience headache, irritability, trouble sleeping, nervousness, increased sweating, heat intolerance, diarrhea, menstrual changes you may need to contact your doctor to check your thyroid hormone levels and possibly readjust your dosage.

Liothyronine Sodium may cause nausea. Occasionally you may lose a small amount of hair, however this is temporary. This is more common in children.
